I was watching "The big bang theory" on Youtube the other day and the Japanese puzzle box called Himitsubako suddenly appered with my surprise!

The Japanese puzzle box Penny of The big bang theory is holding is called Himitsubako.

It does not look like a box at all, but it can be opened with several sliding movements of the surfaces.

This Himitsubako comes in several sizes and difficulties to open. We have developped more difficult Japanese puzzle boxes called Karakuribako recently and the new ones have constantly been invented every year.

For example, this egg shaped object is also a puzzle box and you can open it if you do something to it.

This puzzle box called New Himitsubako No.4 is the hardest puzzle box currently available at my store with 32 moves. What makes this puzzle box the hardest is that there is a certain rule to open the box and you have to find what the rule is first. You will never be able to open it unless you find out the rule.

There are always more than 35 different types of these Himitsubako and Karakuribako at MA by So Shi Te in Tokyo.
